Senate panel approves US, India nuclear-deal

A US Senate panel voted on Tuesday to approve the US-India civil nuclear co-operation agreement without a controversial proposal to give Congress more influence over future deals.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 19-2 in favour of the deal, which would end the three-decade ban on US nuclear trade with India and is viewed by US President Bush as the cornerstone of a new strategic partnership with New Delhi.
