ISLAMABAD ( 2008-09-17 14:49:16 ) :The chief of Awami National Party, Asfandyar Wali, was elected unopposed as the chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Foreign Affairs here on Wednesday.
Besides, PPP’s Ghulam Mustafa Shah has been elected unopposed as Chairman of National Assembly’s Committee on Water and Power.
The election was held at the Parliament House in Islamabad while Secretary National Assembly Syed Karamat Hussain chaired sessions.
Members of Water and Power Committee said people were facing problems in Karachi because of issues of electricity and water, and said textile industry was in state of crisis due to ongoing loadshedding.
Chairman Ghulam Mustafa Shah said Wapda would brief the committee regarding water and power situation during next session.
Talking to media, Chairman Foreign Affair committee Asfandyar Wali said situation was distressing in areas along Pak-Afghan border and urged on the members to focus on foreign policy setting aside political differences.
Member Ayaz said: “We will have to decide whether foreign policy represent people of Pakistan or US.” He asked the prime minister not to issue such statements which might upset the people.
